Model 100B

The reasons for the variations have yet to be authenticated. We will assume them to be “official” factory variations as transition units etc., though there is a high possibility that they are the result of subsequent repairs using whatever materials were provided. Follow the links on the left to read about each model.

If you have a variant not listed, or have reasons to prove any to be false, please contact Justin Crouse at justinc@vintagejohnsonreels.com.

Var. 1

In Progress

Var. 2

The 100B introduces a few aesthetic elements. For the most part it is identical, mechanically to the Var. 4 of the 100A. A white molded push control replaces the black molded version first introduced in Var. 4 of the 100A. A stripe is also engraved into the cover. Unfortunately the “fancy script” artwork was replaced with a horizontal block artwork (left). A gorgeous red-jeweled handle nut almost comes close to erasing the tragedy of the formerly beautiful artwork. The molded plastic handle is white as opposed to the black of the previous version. This is the last model to have the side cover vents.

The “Enigma”

If you have any information on this factory black painted 100B with a burgundy-jeweled handle nut and dual handle, or you’ve ever seen another one, please contact Justin Crouse at justinc@hotmail.com.
